2 “W” and 2 “H” about An Industrial Water Chiller
In this post, we will illustrate 2 “W” and 2 “H” about an industrial water chiller. What is the 2 “W” and 2 “H”? Here is the answer:
What is an industrial water chiller? Where the industrial water chiller will be used?
How does an industrial water chiller work? How do you size an industrial water chiller?
What is a water chiller?
Industrial water chiller is a cooling device with constant temperature and constant flow. Nowadays, we have several kinds of water chillers for meeting various demands in cooling areas. According to cooling ways, we have water cooled water chiller, and air cooled chiller. The former one make it cool by exchanging heat with water from a water tower while the latter one exchanges the heat via air.
In the other hand, there is scroll water chiller and screw water chiller as their compressor types are different. Scroll compressor water chillers are popular in plastic industry owe to the famous long life time compressor and because all the components are installed into a box. It is easy for installation when we use it. Generally speaking, each compressor cooling capacity ranges from 0.25HP to 12HP, so if the cooling capacity request over 45PH, we suggest a screw water chiller. The screw water chillers contains two types: single screw water chiller and double screw water chiller. We also call them open type water chiller as the water tank, screw, and many other components are visible. The screw water chillers are perfect for large cooling capacity requirement and it plays an important role in high efficiency cooling effect.
How does an industrial water chiller work?
The main components of the chiller are: compressor, condenser, evaporator, dry filter, expansion valve, circulation pump, float sensor, thermal water tank, PID control board and so on. So how do they work?
System Flow
Firstly, the float switch will open to fill the water tank, when the water level reaches a certain point, float switch automatically closed. Then the compressor starts working and compressed high pressure gas flow to the condenser. In the condenser, it indirectly contacts with water from cooling tower. For an air cooled chiller, the gas will indirectly contact with air in the warped type condenser. Heat exchange happen as the fan works to produce constant air flow. At this time the temperature of the refrigerant drops, and it flows to dry filters. The impurities will be filtered out from the refrigerant in cycle system, as well as the moisture in it. After flow to expansion valve, the decompression low temperature refrigerant flow into the evaporator. Here it will take away the heat of circulating chilled water indirectly. After that, the refrigerant will re-flow to the compressor.
PID Temperature Control
The components of water chiller work in such a cycle until the temperature of the water drops to the lower limit set by us. Then the PID control board will notify the compressor to stop working. When the temperature rise over the temperature we set, the PID control board will notify the compressor to work again.
For a 5 HP water chiller, we usually use 50l water tank so it can ensure the compressor has enough time to have a rest. Thus it will not only improve the service life time of the compressor, but also can save energy.
The water circulating pump is responsible for transferring the water in tank to mold or the parts we need to cool. Chilled water cycle continuously, and continue to take the heat away of mold.
This is the basic working principle of the water chiller. Additionally, water cooled chiller system needs to be used with the cooling tower, but the air cooled chiller does not need it. Both of them can reach perfect cooling effect, you can choose any type you would prefer according to realistic situation.
